When worries, low mood, emotional outbursts or school stress begin to affect your child’s daily life, it can be difficult to know what kind of help to seek. Therapy SoCal provides child and teen therapy that considers development, relationships, strengths and challenges your family is facing.
We support children and adolescents with anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, OCD, trauma and family transitions. Care may involve individual sessions, parent coaching or family therapy. In-person appointments are offered in Valencia, serving Santa Clarita, and Glendora, with telehealth options for clients located throughout California. An initial conversation helps us identify the right service and clinician.
Support for Your Child’s Everyday Challenges
Children often cannot explain their distress in words. Instead, you may notice avoidance, irritability, disrupted routines, difficulty with friendships, meltdowns, or increasing conflict at home. We listen carefully to both children and caregivers to understand what is happening beneath the behavior, identify the factors contributing to distress, and determine which changes can make daily life easier for the whole family.
Education Therapy to facilitate targeted treatment to improve academic functioning.
If the main question concerns diagnosis or learning, child psychological testing may help clarify the next step. Therapy and testing serve different purposes; we will discuss which fits your concerns.
Treatment begins with understanding your child’s experiences, your family’s priorities, and the situations in which difficulties arise. Goals are individualized to your child and may include attending school more comfortably, managing frustration, navigating relationships, or communicating needs more clearly.
Care That Matches Your Child’s Development
Younger children may communicate through play, drawing and shared activities. Teens may prefer conversation, practical exercises and a greater role in choosing their goals. Your clinician adapts the work to the child’s age, interests, communication preferences and readiness.
Parents and Caregivers Are Part of the Plan
We help caregivers understand how to support their child’s progress while respecting your child’s or teen’s need for trust, connection, and developmentally appropriate privacy. Parent sessions may focus on responding to distress, strengthening the parent-child relationship, and practicing strategies that can be used at home.
Your clinician will discuss confidentiality and its limits at the beginning of treatment, including how information is shared with caregivers in a way that supports both your child’s wellbeing and the therapeutic relationship.
Support Beyond the Therapy Room
When helpful and with your permission, care may include educational advocacy and collaboration around school-related concerns. This may include helping families understand and navigate the process of pursuing an IEP or 504 Plan, as well as collaborating with school teams when appropriate.
For children experiencing challenges with planning, organization, executive functioning, or learning, explore our educational therapy and executive function support. These services can complement mental health treatment when both types of support are appropriate for a child’s needs.
Location and Inquiry: Families can explore our Valencia and Glendora offices and fees before getting started. Services are available in English, Spanish and Cantonese, depending on the clinician. Therapy SoCal is a private-pay, out-of-network practice. Request a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your child’s concerns, preferred appointment format and current openings.
You may want to consider therapy if your child’s emotions, behaviors, or difficulties are making everyday life harder for them or your family. You might notice frequent meltdowns, persistent worry, withdrawal, irritability, difficulty managing frustration, trouble with friendships, ongoing conflict at home, school avoidance, or struggles with routines that seem especially difficult to resolve. Sometimes, a child appears to be coping at school but releases their distress at home, or they work so hard to manage their difficulties that it affects their confidence and well-being. A helpful question to ask is: How much is this difficulty interfering with my child’s ability to participate in everyday life, build relationships, learn, or enjoy being a child? You do not need to wait until a problem becomes severe to seek support.
Parent involvement is a core value at Therapy SoCal. Research consistently demonstrates that when caregivers are meaningfully involved in treatment, children are more likely to experience lasting improvement. The type and degree of parent involvement is individualized based on your child’s age, treatment goals, developmental needs, and clinical presentation.
Sessions may include caregivers, the child individually, or the child and caregivers together. Your clinician will explain the treatment plan and discuss confidentiality and its limits so that everyone understands how caregivers can participate in a way that supports both your child’s progress and the therapeutic relationship.
Yes. Therapy SoCal supports teens experiencing depression and related emotional difficulties. Treatment may address low mood, withdrawal, self-esteem and everyday functioning, with caregiver involvement when appropriate. The clinician will assess the teen’s needs and recommend a suitable plan.
Comprehensive testing is not automatically required before therapy. The initial clinical assessment helps determine what support is appropriate. If diagnostic or learning questions need a fuller evaluation, your clinician may recommend psychological testing and explain the reason.
An initial consultation can help determine whether therapy, psychological testing, parent support, or another service may be appropriate.
We offer in-person services at our Valencia and Glendora locations, as well as telehealth for clients located throughout California. Service availability and telehealth suitability depend on the type of service, your child’s needs, and clinician availability.
Ask about current appointments, including your preferred office location and whether you need care in a particular language.
Comprehensive testing is not automatically required before beginning therapy. The initial clinical assessment helps determine what type of support is most appropriate for your child. If questions arise about diagnosis, neurodevelopment, learning, attention, or other areas of functioning that require a more comprehensive evaluation, your clinician may recommend psychological testing and explain what the evaluation would help clarify.
