Therapy For Adults

Trauma Therapy for Adults in Santa Clarita and Glendora

Complex trauma and adverse childhood experiences can create patterns of ongoing stress that affect relationships, sleep, confidence, emotional regulation, and your ability to feel settled in daily life. Therapy SoCal offers individual therapy for adults who want to better understand these patterns and work toward meaningful, lasting change.

Our adult services include support for trauma- and stress-related concerns, with treatment tailored to your history, symptoms, strengths, and goals. During your consultation, we can also discuss anxiety, mood concerns, parenting stress, and maternal mental health needs to help determine what type of support would be most appropriate.

In-person care is available in Valencia, serving the Santa Clarita Valley, and in Glendora. Telehealth may also be available when you are located in California. We will help you identify a clinician whose experience and approach best fit your needs.

Space to Understand What You Are Carrying

You do not need to have a complete explanation for how you feel before starting therapy. The first conversations give you space to describe what has been difficult, what you have already tried, and what you hope will change.

Treatment goals may relate to:

  • Trauma-related distress, including difficult memories, avoidance, or feeling constantly on edge.
  • Complex trauma, including the effects of repeated or longstanding experiences that continue to shape how you feel, relate to others, or navigate daily life.
  • Anxiety, overwhelm, or low mood that interferes with daily routines, relationships, or your sense of wellbeing.
  • Grief, major life transitions, or changes in identity that leave you feeling unsettled or unsure of what comes next.
  • Parenting stress and the emotional demands of caring for others while managing your own needs.
  • Maternal mental health concerns, including adjustment during pregnancy, the postpartum period, or other transitions into and through motherhood.

Your clinician will take time to understand your concerns and assess what may be contributing to them rather than assuming a diagnosis. Together, you can identify goals and determine what type of support is most appropriate.

Parents navigating separation or family changes can also explore divorce, co-parenting, and family support.

A Collaborative Approach to Adult Therapy

We begin by understanding your priorities, identifying useful goals and discussing treatment options. Sessions provide an opportunity to notice patterns, practice different responses and review how changes are affecting your life outside therapy.

What Are Executive Functions?

Trauma work includes preparation and attention to your ability to manage distress. Depending on your needs and the clinician’s training, treatment may include EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy or other evidence-based approaches. We explain the options and decide together how they fit your goals.

Practical Support for Daily Life

Therapy may focus on responding to stress, setting boundaries, managing difficult emotions and changing patterns that keep you feeling stuck. If anxiety or compulsive symptoms need a more specific approach, learn about our anxiety and OCD services.

Care That Respects Your Preferences

Your cultural background, relationships and beliefs matter in treatment. Christian or faith-sensitive integration can be discussed if you request it. It is optional. We aim to make treatment understandable and relevant to your own priorities rather than assume what healing should look like for you.

Questions About Adult Therapy

Have More Questions?

You can discuss a single distressing experience, repeated experiences or the effects of longstanding stress. Your clinician will ask about your history, current concerns and daily functioning and adjust treatment accordingly.

Many people feel nervous about starting trauma therapy because they worry they will have to talk about painful experiences before they feel ready. At Therapy SoCal, we move at a pace that feels manageable for you. Early sessions may focus on understanding how trauma affects the brain and body, learning practical ways to manage overwhelming emotions, and building a sense of safety and control. These skills help you navigate difficult feelings without becoming overwhelmed. You will not be expected to share more than you are ready for, and your therapist will work with you to determine when and how to begin addressing painful experiences.

Pregnancy and the months following childbirth can bring significant changes in emotional well-being. Mental health concerns that arise during pregnancy or after delivery are often referred to as perinatal mental health concerns. A Therapy SoCal clinician can help you explore your symptoms, concerns, and support needs and determine whether a therapist with the appropriate training and current availability is a good fit or whether a referral to another provider may be more appropriate.

Telehealth may be an option for clients located in California when clinically appropriate. Some people prefer in-person sessions at our Valencia or Glendora office. Discuss privacy, appointment format and any service-specific requirements with the team before scheduling.
